The Regulation (UE) 650/2012, has introduced the European Certificate of Succession with the purpose to simplify inheritance settlement and to avoid disputes when the succession of a deceased involvers the legal systems or more than one Member State.
Influenced by the German Erbschein, the European Certificate of Succession states the status and the scope of rights of the heirs or legatees and the powers of the executors or wills administrators for executing these rights in another Member State. It does not replace internal procedures on inheritance.
This Seminar held by Mrs. Ingrida Steponavičienė from our WLN Partner Juridicon from Vilnius (Lithuania) introduced the regulation, legal effect, the form to issue, application, validity and the form of challenging the European Certificate of Succession.
